Contigo DEGREE: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration INTRODUCTION. Mayana or Coleus Blumei used for Herbal Medicine It is useful. Walking around the yard and checking on my plants. I am just sad that some of them did not survive because of too much heat. I noticed my Coleus plant. It is not affected much by the heat and I am just glad it is surviving. I remember when I was young my mother would get some of the leaves if we get small cuts or wounds. She would crushed it in her hands and put it on the affected area. It is not painful and the bleeding really stops. It is such a nice thought and this plant made me remember the goodness of my mother. Mayana is a Tagalog word, one of the dialects in the Philippines. It is also known Coleus in English. What is Mayana or Coleus Blumei? It is perennial aromatic herb of southeastern Asia having large usually bright-colored or blotched leaves, with toothed margins and blue violet flowers, numerous, in simple or branched inflorences. Coleus is Erect, branched, fleshy herb, the stem is purplish and 4 angled. They are commonly known as Coleus, a name which derives from an earlier classification under the genus name coleus. Where can we find them? Mayana or Coleus is a genus of perennial plants native to Tropical places. Africa, Asia, Australia, the East Indies, the. Malay Archipelago and the Philippines. It is also in different houses used as ornaments. Some schools in the Philippines have herbal plants. What are the uses of this plant? • As ornaments • Herbal medicine Mild bleeding of wounds: Pick the bigger leaves and wash it. Crush and extract the juice. Squeezed the leaves directly on the wound and apply the crushed leaves as poultice. Headache: Pound leaves and applies over temples and nape. Bruises and Sprains: Crush or pound 5 - 10 leaves and apply over the ankles, wrist or affected areas for 30 minutes. DISCUSSION Botany Mayana is an erect, branched, fleshy, annual herb, about 1 meter high. Stems are purplish and 4-angled. Leaves are variously blotched or colored, usually more or less hairy, ovate, 5 to 10 centimeters long, rather coarsely toothed in the margins; and in the most common form uniformly velvety-purple. Flowers are purplish, numerous, and borne in lax, terminal, simple or branched inflorescences, 15 to 30 centimeters long. Calyx is green, and about 2.5 millimeters long, with the upper lip ovate and the lateral lobes short and ovate, the lower one being 2-cleft. Corolla is about 11 millimeters long. Mayana benefits The Mayana herbs have many varieties very colorful as ornamental plant today. Mayana as ornamental plant is use for landscaping of beautiful houses, Mayana using as herbs helping to poultice, Wash the young leaves and crush extract the juice from the leaves, Used dropper. Few drops of the juice directly on the wounds. The herbs prevent to a simple illness....But amazing SIDE EFFECT OF THE MAYANA PLANTS CONCLUSION Do we need it? Maybe. I know almost everybody has a medicinal cabinet at home or first aid kit when you do camping. This is just information that you will never know it might come on handy. Like your kids will have an assignment about herbal plants. You got already an idea that the Coleus in your garden or in the pot is an herbal plant. You can also enjoy the colorful leaves in your garden.
