At 7:3pm doppler radar indicates an area of non severe rain - TopicsExpress

At 7:3pm doppler radar indicates an area of non severe rain developing over the SW NC mtns. The Storm Predictions Center has issued a new tornado watch just to our SW that includes Atlanta. In fact a tornado warning was issued for Downtown Atlanta a little while ago and they have another rotating cell to their SW moving toward the city. This area of developing thunderstorms is what concerns me over the next 12 to 16hrs. That area of rain that is developing over the NC SW Mtns will over spread the area in the next 30 min to 1 hr. That rain could help to stabilize our atmosphere a little but it will not alleviate the early morning severe weather threat that could include tornadoes. To latest sounding still leads me to believe that any storm that does get going will likely rotate. That doesnt mean every storm will produce a tornado but it does show that most any storm could produce damaging winds. A tornado or two are possible though. Looks like that threat moves in after 3am. We are watching. Chris White Chief Meteorologist Burke Weather
