At Majestic Wine we don’t just sell wine. We now stock a large range of craft beers. Here is a quick guide to matching beer to food. Intensity Try to match the intensity of the food with the intensity of beer. For example a strong flavoured IPA with intense hoppy characteristics and toffee maltiness would match well with strong blue cheese or rich sauces. A lighter lager would match better with shellfish or white cheese. Contrast To spice up a beer and food match you can try contrasting beer and food. For example trying the bitter Brewdog Punk IPA with sweetness enhances both flavours. Matching flavours Try matching the flavours present in beer with those in food. For example roasted caramel flavours present in Roscoe’s Amber Ale would match these flavours in BBQ food and Citrus flavours in Brewdog Dead Pony Club would match those in Thai food. Other Interactions Bitterness enhances chilli heat so if you like spicy foods go for an IPA. Effervescent beer cuts through cloying foods like cream or cheese.
