At approximately 11:30 a.m. today, the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Malibu Search and Rescue team responded to an injured hiker call at Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills, California. The 22 year old female hiker from Northridge was hiking with her father when she reportedly fractured her ankle hiking well off of the Coyote Trail. When rescuers arrived at Paramount Ranch, they met up with Los Angeles County Fire personnel and National Park Rangers. While hiking into hills to reach the injured woman, rescuers realized that she had gone well off the trail and was perched in a heavily wooded and brush laden area that would complicate her extrication and transport. Numerous personnel from several federal and county agencies worked together in difficult terrain conditions to reach the woman. Upon reaching her, Fire paramedics tended to her injury while Malibu SAR set up to evacuate her in a rescue litter. Because of the complicated terrain, the rescuers had to carry the litter for over an hour before reaching a safe location where the woman could be transported to a hospital.
