At the beginning of the work day at Meher Free Dispensary (Meherazad), a certain number of patients are allowed into the inner court area to await the doctor. Today, an old man, dressed in kafni and traditional red turban, lay on the low wall at the end of the group, apparently asleep. (see first picture). A few minutes later, there was a loud thump. After a what was that? moment, we all looked across to see this man lying on the courtyard walk, directly below where he had been sleeping. We rushed over (picture 2) and examined him. He had an abrasion on his right arm and a tender spot on the right side of this head, but, at first blush, nothing that appeared serious. He was helped up and moved to a treatment room where his doctor, Dr. Bhandarkar, examined him again. An ice pack was applied to his head and the abrasion on his arm cleaned and dressed (picture 3).
