Atlantica Calls for Direct Election of the Premier Nova Scotians - TopicsExpress

Atlantica Calls for Direct Election of the Premier Nova Scotians should directly elect their leadership Currently in Nova Scotia we have what is called Legislative Sovereignty as opposed to Popular sovereignty. Under Legislative Sovereignty the members of the Legislature pick our leadership. The leader of the majority party usually becomes Premier but that is just a convention, it is not a rule. Any party can depose our premier or leader without recourse to the citizenry. So in actual fact, the parties control who is Premier, not citizens. “Being a democracy means we, the citizens, pick our leadership directly without interference from party functionaries”, says Jonathan Dean, leader of Atlantica, “we support popular sovereignty, we want you to pick the Premier in a direct vote. So on election day you would vote for your representative and also vote for Premier.” Greater democracy is part of our 6 4 2 Election Platform.
