Attitudes can change...when Karma and I pulled up at the beach - TopicsExpress

Attitudes can change...when Karma and I pulled up at the beach today this old guy lay trembling in the middle of road, unable to get up. He was "untouchable" and at this middle class beach, cars and bikes drove around him, some stared, but most looked away. His eyes caught mine and pleaded "help me." We walked over. Karma licked his grizzled face. I extended my hand, and pulled him to a sitting position. I stood behind him and he leaned back against my legs. Others noticed and maybe seeing that I had touched the untouchable and not burst into flames freed them from societal constrictors, and soon a family came over and offered water. He sipped it gratefully through cracked lips. He reached for my hand again and i pulled him to his feet. Now a small crowd accompanied him to a shady spot, where he was offered biscuits and mango juice. Karma and I continued on to the beach, and when we returned he was gone. Curious, I drove looking for him, and he had actually walked, slowly shuffled actually, nearly .3 km. The momentary and unexpected kindness of strangers had fortified him, and made sure, these few moments were not his last. A great way to start the new year, for me, for him, and of course, for Good Karma.
