Atty Toto. I would like to think that Congressman Manny Pacquiao, - TopicsExpress

Atty Toto. I would like to think that Congressman Manny Pacquiao, the world champion boxer, would have contributed to Michael Martinezs Olympic expenses if our government has not chosen initially to do it. It is also rare for a Filipino representing a country (where snow and ice do not come unless they are on top of the very high mountains of our country which nobody live} to be able to compete in ice skating in the Olympics and for a Filipino to be able to compete for the Winter Olympics is a very unusual situation. And for our country not to pay attention and even recognise such a very unusual feat for a countrymate given a country that is a tropical place does not bode well for the image of our country. Maybe it is not too late for Congressman Pacquiao to contribute financial assistance to our Olympic Filipino skater in Sochi, Russia if our government is not interested in this affair. This issue has definitely now become bigger after Michael scored an impressive performance to win a slot to compete in the finals for the Olympic gold medal. Earlier, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Richie Garcia claimed that the sports funding body had already prepared vouchers for $50 a day for Michael. But it was obviously not yet given to Michael because the first Asian and first Filipino to compete in the Winter Olympics went straight to Sochi, Russia from the USA where he trained in preparation for the Olympics. This means that when the competition is over the PSC money would now be of no use. After a near-perfect performance in figure skating short program to get a high score of 64.81, the Post quoted him saying: I feel like a real champion. GMA news posted online its news story stating that the mother of Michael lied when she claimed that she had to mortgage their property just so the teenager Olympian can have training and a coach and that the government did not give even for the coach. However, GMA found its report erroneous that it changed the title of the same news story by replacing the word govt with POC. Obviously, the error was due to reckless disregard of its claim that it was false to say that the POC is a government agency when it is actually a private body.
