Aubrey has never been a reader. Hes always cried anytime he had to pick up a book or a pencil. He will be twelve in a few months, and I have only gotten him to read in the last year, without a major meltdown. He always scored low on spelling and reading. At ten, he was still asking me how to spell words that were anything but lower elementary sight words. And I did. Patiently. I began leaving books around I knew he would like. Space books. Comics. DIY project books. I never asked him to read them. I gave him fun facts on Snapple lids. Jokes on popsicle sticks. I hadnt insisted on school time yet today. Yesterday school time was painting on canvas and a black hole discussion turned awesome...all on the deck in the breeze. Today I asked Aubrey what he was doing.
