August 13, 1959: The Cat-Man lived again in Blackhawk #141 (with art by Dick Dillin and Chuck Cuidera) but this costumed character had nothing to do with the hero published by Tem and Holyoke between 1940 and 1946. Laying claim to the dormant name, editor Jack Schiff recycled it three years later in Detective Comics #311 when Bill Finger and Jim Mooney created a more enduring Cat-Man as part of a resurgence of costumed villains in the sales-challenged Batman series. The Blackhawk tale played heavily on its Cat-Man’s nine lives while Finger only teased that angle in the first two appearances of his villain (Detective #311, #318) before making it a more prominent plot point in the third (Detective #325).
