August 19, 2014: Evening update - Thunderstorms rolled through portions of the region earlier this evening. Some of the storms produced golf ball size hail and wind gusts above 60 mph. There were only isolated reports of severe weather. Many missed out on the rain altogether. The coming days will bring a heat wave. Temperatures into the 90s for afternoon highs. Heat index values will be 100+. This will rank as either the hottest 7 day period this summer, thus far or perhaps second hottest. Either way, hot. The heat will linger into the weekend.
