August Business After Hours 2013 Business owners from Albany, Walpole and Denmark made their way to Spot Newsagency on Strickland Street, Denmark, for the opportunity to meet and greet fellow business owners and network. Despite the cold weather, guests were warming welcomed by the hosts Peter and Megan of Spot News, Viv and Phil Snowden of Singlefile Estate Wines and Max Ings of Denmark Hotel. Peter Zuks of Spot News, once known as Peppermint Granny’s, moved into Spot News after feeling the need to relocate his store. He chose the name Peppermint Granny’s as a means of advertising and having people question why he had such a unique name. Since moving to Spot News, Peter and his wife Megan have created a large client base, stocking office supplies, print cartridges and magazines. They endeavour to build great client relationships and endorse shopping local. Peter left guests in good spirits, on completion of his introductory speech. Peter explained to guests that he takes pride in clients and friends alike, leaving his shop with a smile on their face and quite often sings a melodious tune of his creation to raise their spirits. Max Ings of Denmark Hotel, was a regular face to many of the business owners and guests, with his regular open mic nights, theme nights, band performances and functions at the Denmark Hotel. Max explained to guests the challenges and rewards of managing young children and a full time business. He also told guests of the fantastic number of sales he has had during the quiet season, saying it has shown a substantial increase since this time last year. The Denmark Hotel is now offering takeaways with free delivery available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Phil and Viv of Singlefile Estate Wines gave guests a selection of 5 wines to taste for the evening ranging from a light Chardonnay through to a Cab Merlot. Phil relayed to guests his history with Single File Estate dating back to 2009 when they began producing wines at 500 bottles a season to today, producing around 5,000 bottles a season. Phil endorses contributing positively to the local community by selecting and sourcing fruit from within the Great Southern region. Single File Estate produces fantastic wines and has received the Dark Horse Award this year for their great efforts. Big ideas and inspiration are the key to their success and they hope to expand production in the future. Phil and Viv have a cellar door available for those wishing to sample their wines. A big thank you to the hosts for the evening.
