Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology South Australia Regional Office TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for DAMAGING WINDS For people in the Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Murraylands, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of the West Coast districts. Issued at 5:25 pm Saturday, 17 August 2013. A deep low pressure system over the Southern Ocean will pass to the south of Tasmania on Sunday night. The low is generating a broad and vigorous northwest to westerly airstream across the southern half of South Australia. An associated front will cross southern districts during Sunday, bringing another period of heavier showers, isolated thunderstorms and some small hail. Localised damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h remain possible in the south of the warning area this evening and thoughtout on Sunday, mostly with showers. In addition, northwest to westerly winds of 50-65 km/h are expected to develop in southern parts of the warning area overnight and extend throughout on Sunday. The Mount Lofty Ranges and near coastal areas are most likely to be affected by these damaging winds. Locations which may be affected include Port Lincoln, Warooka, Kingscote, Adelaide, Mount Barker and Mount Gambier. Wind gusts of 85 km/h were recorded at Murray Bridge Airport earlier today. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; * Secure or put away loose items around your property. * Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe
