Author of the Month Deep River Books author of the month for AUGUST 2014: DR JOSE J. NORBERTO: The Physical Death & Resurrection: A Surgeons View Award-winning cardiothoracic surgeon Jose J. Norberto invites you on a fascinating journey of discovery as he examines the physical characteristics of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth—the man revered by millions as the Son of God. In The Physical Death and Resurrection, Dr. Norberto combines history with modern science to offer a unique perspective on the humanity of Jesus Christ. In the first century, crucifixion was the chosen method of execution, meant to intimidate enemies of the Roman Empire. The cross, a brutal instrument of torture, has become the chosen symbol for Jesus’ followers. As we better understand Jesus’ physical suffering, profound value is added to His sacrifice. His death and resurrection take on deeper significance as the pivotal events on which the entire religious movement of Christianity is founded. This book helps bridge the gap between the religious significance of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection and the science that can help make these events more real. Dr. Norberto’s career as a cardiothoracic surgeon allows him to touch human hearts physically. In sharing the results of his investigation, he hopes God will use him to touch each reader’s heart and soul with a greater appreciation of our Savior. A note from our author of the month: Let me first state that I didnt start out to be a writer. I have been a cardiac surgeon for 14 busy years. During this time, I have enjoyed taking care of my patients and their families. I must say that my career kept me very focused on just doing that – taking care of people. So, how did I get into writing? I didnt like to write papers during my school years, nor during my training. In fact, the chairman of surgery told me once: How people are going to know about you if you dont write/publish? In my mind all what I wanted to do was to take care of my patients. This mindset stayed with me until approximately three years ago when I started to give lectures about the physical suffering of Jesus: what did the crucifixion do to Jesus body? During that time I saw the reaction of the audience, they wanted more and I wanted to give more. So I started to write, basically putting my talk in black and white statements. Then I realized that would be a good idea to do a pre-crucifixion profile of the victim (Jesus). This profile included physical aspects, education, personality, ministry and the sociopolitical atmosphere prior to his passion. By this time, I was over 75 pages and more ideas were coming. Then I realized that only writing about his death would simply address another tragedy in human history. It was at that time that I realized I needed to address His Resurrection. By the way, the Resurrection was my favorite part. I found out that it is not just a belief based on faith. There is strong historical evidence that truly supports it. I must say, that by that time the book had a mind of its own, because I even wrote about the characteristics of Jesus resurrected body, which is probably my signature chapter of the book. So I havent stopped WRITING since then, in fact I have another manuscript that is being edited and other projects in the works. This is how I got into writing. - Dr. Jose J. Norberto
