The primary thing to be concerned with when using this method is to ensure that the water is flowing through the filter for long enough to be effectively scrubbed, and to thoroughly rinse the filters ~weekly. The in-line filters on faucets dont necessarily have enough time to thoroughly scrub the water for microcystins, so a pitcher or separate faucet type of filter is better.
