He also appreciated the good partnership that his ministry enjoys from the International Aid Service urging them to continue with that spirit. “This is a good initiative that has come with IAS, they have been standing alongside with the ministry of Water, Cooperatives and Rural Development for a long time, I urge them to continue with that spirit,” Makuach said. In this exercise, the five newly donated water pumps were distributed to five residential areas of Malou-Aweer, Gateway, Naivasha, Kabat and Maper respectively to serve communities in those residential areas. The pumps run on solar power and have been set up to benefit the communities targeted for the next few years. While addressing the beneficiaries of the respective residential areas at the handover ceremony, the state Minister for Water, Rural Development and Cooperation, Bona Makuach Mawien, called on the communities to manage the pumps responsibly. “This water yard cost thousands of US Dollars. It is your responsibility to accept it and also to maintain it. And keep it well,” he said. Northern Bahr el Ghazal like many other states in South Sudan has suffered severe effects of flooding this year resulting many diseases hence creating an opportunity of providing pure drinking water sources to the residents in order to reduce common waterborne diseases.
