If Purgatory is anything like last night, please God give me a direct pass to Heaven! My little Pom Gussie spent the night yipping to be lifting into bed with us. Once there, he playfully attacked my face, nibbled on my nose and ears, tugged at my hair.... There was nothing I could do, no place to put him without waking up someone else in the house. In the middle of the night he finally burrowed up against me and fell into a deep sleep (as did I). In my life, Ive been awakened abruptly by sick children, the startling ringing of the phone, the shattering of glass when a picture has fallen off the wall. Nothing has ever been quite as shocking or unnerving as the wake- up call Gussie gave me at 5 a.m. Gus decided to give me a wet willy, using his tongue in place of a finger (as dogs lack fingers, of course). Right now I hate the little furball and would gladly have him turned into a pretty hat or muff, but Im sure Ill be happy to see him when he greets me, smiling and wagging his tail at the end of the school day.
