BACK IN THE DAY OF JEEP ARCHAEOLOGY..... Don Fowler a famed archaeologist was just a rookie when he faced a sudden turn in his life plans. Isnt that the way life happens ? In Fowlers own words : Dr. Jennings called me into his office and told me to acquire a sleeping bag and some work clothes and boots. I was going into the field with Jim (Gunnerson) and 2 others, and we would be out until the weather drove us in. I could resume classes in the Winter term. Having studiously avoided the outdoor scene from earliest childhood (I resigned from the Boy Scouts after 3 weeks and my family had long since quit asking me to go along on hunting trips). I had, in fact never camped out. My intention had been to be a sparkling urban lounge lizard. But there it was : I was going to have to live in the dreaded outdoors ........Don would spend much of the next 5 years out in the boonies by Glen Canyon but would never master the dutch oven.
