BACK TO THE MATER - Just when will this begin to make sense? It is no news that Senator Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state won the April 26, 2011 general elections after polling a total vote of 377,487 to beat Gen. Adetunji Olurin (rtd) of the peoples’ Democratic Party who polled 188,698 votes. This resounding victory was based on the conviction of the people that he will complement the efforts of his Lagos state counterpart to turn things around especially on road construction and rehabilitation. The two prominent convincing factors were party affiliation and proximity. Amosun won the election on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)which is the same party for Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State and secondly, Ogun state happens to be the closest to Lagos. Therefore it was expected that both will be motivated while striving towards development. Electorates from Alagbole, Denro, Ishashi, Akute, Olambe voted overwhelmingly for ACN to ensure that the incumbent won at least within their area of influence and which he did. Obviously they had one thing in mind which was presented before the Governor during his campaign period and that was the deplorable state of Denro/Ishashi, Akute to Ajuwon, Akute to Olambe roads. A tenure of 4 years is as good as passed since his assumption of office and yet, the roads degenerate by the day, a situation which has contributed seriously to traffic congestion on Alagbole/Akute road which is the only motorable access road to and fro Berger, subjecting residents to spending hours in a journey that ought to take fifteen minutes maximum. These roads in question especially Denro/Ishashi when rehabilitated will serve as a link road to motorists going to Olambe, Akute, Ajuwon from Ojodu berger thereby decongesting traffic jam from the only motorable Alagbole road, which is still under re-construction. It will also save the cost of transportation for passengers especially those who live within that neighborhood as well as ensure smooth journey within a minimal time frame. These roads have suffered serious neglect since the days of Governor Gbenga Daniel and is still suffering presently even as the people’s expectations for change were aroused as a result of a different party platform. Business activities in the area have paralyzed as most shops have closed down for business. Many schools have closed down as the road remains a death trap and a vehicle destroyer. 4 years tenure has come and gone, and now you are about seeking re-election upon unfulfilled promises to the people of Ojodu - Denro - Ishashi. It is so sad! William Shakespeare wrote and I quote “lowliness is the young ambitious ladder by which the climber upwards looks but when once he attains the uppermost rung; unto the ladder, turns his face scorning the base degrees by which he did ascend” This intellectual remark forms the attitude of our politicians who prostrate at the feet of the electorates during campaign only to change as soon as they are ushered to the corridors of power. It is very sad, that people who joyously elected into power after your promises to them, still have to beg you to bring developments to their environment. Where is your integrity? This road is killing us, and it is worse than a disease. #Repair Ojodu -Denro -Ishashi Road
