BANJO 130 Banjo was taken out of production in 1984, again it is one of those products that when mentioned you have a vague recollection of it, but remembering anything in detail is a little difficult, especially when you get to our age right? "Banjo, Banjo, the one for me and you Light and crispy wafer and roast nut flavour too” They had a Blue and Yellow packaging and cost about 10p, it had two wafer of chocolate topped with Hazelnuts. The bar was a twin pack, a bit like the Kit Kat wafer, “Banjo, the banjo It’s the one for me and you, Light and crispy wafer Plus roasted peanuts too!” There appeared to be two sorts of Banjo on the market, as many people swear they saw Red packaging too for the Coconut version. BAR 6 no info at all BLUE RIBAND 200 More wafer delights now covered in milk chocolate, Blue Ribald was made by Nestle, and believe it or not actually dates back to 1937! They were phased out sometime in the late 80s, but came back in 2004 at a very small size, and like anything else, when you know how much value it used to be, you get a little annoyed at the new version. The advertising hook, went “I’ve got those — can’t get enough of those Blue Riband blues, Blue Riband’s the chocolate wafer biscuit I always choose, When my woman treats me right, She buys me Blue Riband wafer biscuits, crisp and light, I’ve got those — can’t get enough of those Bl-u-u-u-e…Oh! thank you! Voice-over: Buy Blue Riband — the biscuit to beat the blues”. What made the Blue Riband such a great name was the fact people related it to something special, like the Blue Riband race, or even when it is mentioned in something upmarket like the Henley races, or even swimming. Now as a spotty teenager, I do remember eating loads of these, as they were so cheap. But honestly I did not think they were anything that special did you?
