#BASKETBALL 411: Back to back and defending champion, Miami Heats suffered defeat in the hands of Brooklyn Nets, as the Nets put an end to their horror losing streak against Heats. Heats lost 100-101 to Nets, thus ending a 13 game losing streak to the Heats dating back from 2008, held on in the final term to consign the Heat to back-to-back defeats. After the sides went to half-time locked up at 47-47, the Nets surged away in the third term to open up a healthy 11-point buffer. They maintained that lead until the final two minutes when Miami reeled off 10 straight points, to ensure Brooklyn would hold on for their first win of the new season. Dwight Howard showed why Dallas tried so hard to sign him this season, making a strong contribution as the Houston Rockets beat the Mavericks 113-105. Howard had 13 points to go with his 16 rebounds to send a message to Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who said the powerful forward had made an error in joining the Rockets. Arron Afflalo scored 30 points to help the Orlando Magic to a comfortable 110-90 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, while the Bobcats edged out the Cleveland Cavaliers 90-84 in Charlotte. The Philadelphia 76ers beat the Washington Wizards 109-102, the Hawks accounted for the Toronto Raptors 102-95 in Atlanta and the Milwaukee Bucks upset the Boston Celtics 105-98. The Memphis Grizzlies scored a 111-108-overtime victory over the Detroit Pistons, the Minnesota Timberwolves overpowered the Oklahoma City Thunder 100-81 and the Portland Trail Blazers were too strong for the Denver Nuggets 113-98. In other NBA results on Friday, the Los Angeles Clippers beat Sacramento 110-101, the Phoenix Suns edged out the Utah Jazz 87-84 and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Kobe Bryant-less Los Angeles Lakers 91-85.
