BE ACCOUNTABLE Proverbs 15:22 says, “Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success” (NLT). Dear young minister, in this age where many ministers have chosen to account to no one, accountability will be a difference between ministry success or failure. There are three levels of accountability: 1. SENIOR LEADERS. Spiritual fathers and those with more experience do not just focus on your gift but also on the fruit of your life. They make sure there is correlation between your giftedness and fruitfulness. FB friend Zolani Maramba wrote, “God doesnt want us to be characters but to have character.” You can’t father if you haven’t been fathered because you will experiment with people’s lives. 2. PEERS. Ministers shouldn’t be lone rangers but should also be accountable to peers and colleagues. In other words there should be a peer-review mechanism that allows other ministers to question any behaviour that brings the gospel into disrepute. Paul was able to rebuke Peter because these two were accountable to one another (Gal 2:10-15). 3. SONS. Ministers should also be accountable to those they lead. If those you lead cannot question you when you preach or do things that are unscriptural then they are a fan club and not a spiritual family. Remember you’re not only a man of God, daddy, or the prophet but also a Christian whose life should honour God. You are not exempt from practising the things that you are preaching. Please don’t only surround yourself with admirers but also people who are not scared to correct you when you err. I have these people in my life and I know they wouldn’t hesitate to call me to order if I were to appropriate upon myself an undeserved ministry title or academic qualification. You need such people.
