BE AWARE OF INSECURITY. UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI IS NO SAFE. I joined University of Nairobi with an expectation of coming to a world class learning institution not knowing that I was joining a criminal breeding centre. It is very unfortunate that criminal gangs have taken over every activity in this great institution. This gang is committing atrocities beyond belief. Innocent students are being beaten, their property stolen and even others raped in broad daylight. We can’t walk study or do anything freely in campus especially in Main Campus where this gang has housed its headquarters. The University administration must carry responsibility and shame of this kind of happenings since they have the mandate to stop this and prosecute the culprits. Insecurity for one is insecurity for all. Living free from violence is a human right and a constitutional requirement for everybody. It is the obligation of the government to protect its citizens and prosecute the lawbreakers. However, the contrary to expectations is being witnessed more so in Central Police Station and Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi where most of this gang members committing crime in UoN have been arrested and taken severally. These suspects are released almost immediately after arrest under unclear circumstances always. Also in the university we are being protected by a dysfunctional security agency which tolerates this malice to go on without them taking any action against the lawbreakers. These are people who don’t fit to exist in society, because the University security has failed to protect us, we are going to take the responsibility soon. We will not sit and watch while our colleagues are being clobbered to death others sustaining serious permanent injuries when we can rise up and stop this kind of inhumanly activities. REVOLUTION is coming soon and whoever who is facilitating and protecting this gang should be aware that his/her days are numbered. These are the people who are fond of stoning and looting from motorists often, spoiling our reputation as an institution. This kind of intolerance and madness must be condemned and buried now. Concerned UoN Student, Vincent Osumo.
