BE PREPARED TO CRY!!!! This is a copy of the poem I wrote for my mom on year for mothers day. See if you can guess which bird I am. And if you know my brothers, see if you can guess which ones they are. There in a high branch of a proud oak tree, Lay a nest of birdies which no one could see. Father and mother looked on from the start, Providing and teaching right from the heart. The birdies were young and filled with delight, The ways of the new world were far from there sight. But as they grew older it became more and more clear, That the time for them to go on their own was drawing near Their parents were hesitant but also knowing, That their babies had not yet finished growing. But aware they needed to give them their freedom, Their parents reluctantly let their birds leave them. The first little bird so eager to use his wings, Thoughts of the new world, losing his strings. He jumped off the side of the nest so fast, Flew into the air, was free at last. The second little bird, not timid or shy, Wanted to go and said goodbye. He quickly went to the side of the nest, Flew into the air, and pasted his test. The third baby birdie, wanted to follow his brother, Said goodbye to his dad and kissed his mother. But God had other plans you see, And called for that birdie as he left the tree. The last little birdie, the last of the four, Looked at his parents, his heart was tore. A new world of change, did call him to leave, But leaving his parents did cause him to grieve. The wind got under his wings at last, And he flew through the air to a world so vast. Leaving the only home he had know, To go create a life of his own. The parents watched on as all of the birdies Found love, and happiness, and families. They were proud of the choices that were made, And there love for their babies never did fade. The empty nest will always be there, It’s visited through time with love and care. It now stands as the birdies guiding light, A home for hope and all that is right.
