BEACH BUDDIES BEGINS THE NEW YEAR WITH A NEW PROJECT BEACH cleaning charity Beach Buddies is starting the new year with a new project this weekend. Volunteers are being sought to help with reconstructing a footpath at Niarbyl which was severely damaged by last year’s winter storms. “This is something rather different than normal, but it’s still important,” said Beach Buddies founder Bill Dale. “We are very keen to open our Visitor Centre at Niarbyl to visitors, but the damage to the footpath caused by last year’s storms has held back the opening. “This is a beautiful part of the Island, with lots of people visiting all year round, so we want this to be a really professional job which will be appropriate for the landscape and, most importantly, will not be washed away if we have another storm.” Beach Buddies says this is also an opportunity for any new volunteers to get involved, particularly if they have skills in such projects and can offer advice, as well as those who are simply keen to offer some elbow grease to the project. Volunteers are asked to meet at Niarbyl at the thatched cottages at 10am tomorrow, Saturday, January 3rd. Hot drinks and snacks will be provided for everyone afterwards, together with vouchers sponsored by MacDonalds.
