BEHIND THE SCENES... Part Two of our Behind The Scenes Series showing what happens during a routine operation (aided by photos of the lovely puppy Ava during her spay operation!) After having the tube placed in your pets windpipe to allow delivery of anaesthetic gas and oxygen, your pet will then be attached to many monitoring devices – they all monitor slightly different things, such as heart rate, breathing rate and the level of oxygen their body is receiving. Their fur will be clipped so that the site of surgery can be thoroughly cleaned. The vet will then scrub up and put on a sterile gown and gloves ready for surgery. A sterile drape is placed over your pet, leaving just the surgical site exposed. During the operation, your pet will be monitored at all times by a veterinary nurse. All the information is recorded onto our anaesthetic monitoring sheets so that any changes can be dealt with immediately.
