BEING OVERCOME BY TIREDNESS AT FAJR TIME #QUESTION: Allaah, the Most High says: O you who believe! Approach not the prayer when you are in a drunken state, until you know (the meaning) of what you utter. [Al-Quran 4:43] Does this Verse include the situation of those brothers who come to Fajr prayer while they are afflicted by drowsiness? And what advice do you offer to those brothers? ____________ #ANSWER: I advise those brothers who come to Fajr prayer when they are very drowsy to go to bed early at night, because if they go to bed early, they will be relieved of this heavy drowsiness, which causes them not to know what they are saying during their prayers. That is the solution to this problem. ¤ Shaykh bin al-Uthaymin Source: Fatawa Islamiyah Vol. 2 Page 386 ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ SLEEPING THROUGH FAJR PRAYER #QUESTION: If a person slept through Fajr prayer, will Allaah reward him for the remainder of the prayers on that day, or not? And if he prays it after he wakes up, will it be accepted from him? #ANSWER: It has been authentically reported from the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) that he said: Whoever slept through the prayer, or forgot it, he should pray it when he remembers it; there is no expiation required for it except this. [1] This covers the dawn prayer and others. As for the prayers after it, if he guards them and performs them at the right time, sleeping through Fajr time will not harm him and its reward will be complete according to his actions and his striving in his prayer. But he must not be negligent in this matter, and it is obligatory for him to instruct someone to wake him until he gets up to go to prayer at the right time, or he must place an alarm clock at his head, so that he is not excessive or negligent, and if sleep overcomes him, despite his undertaking precautions, then there is no sin upon him, and he must pray as soon as he wakes up. Whoever is overcome by sleep and he does not wake up until after the rising of the sun should pray fajr just as he used to pray it beforehand, and he prays the Sunnah of the fajr before that. For indeed it is established that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) was overcome by sleep in a journey and neither he nor his Companions woke up until after the rising of the sun. So the adhaan was called for it (the prayer) and he prayed the optional prayer before ( the obligatory two rakahs) then he prayed it (the obligatory two rakahs); salawaat ullaahi wa salaamuhu alayhi. (Bukhaari 2/66, Muslim 681) And with Allaah is the tawfeeq. And may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions. ¤ Permanent Committee for Research and Verdicts Source: Question five from fatwa 6576 P13 volume 6 Fataawa of the Permanent Committee ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ REASONS THAT WOULD HELP THE MUSLIM UPON ESTABLISHING THE FAJR PRAYER #QUESTION: What are the reasons that would help the Muslim upon establishing the Fajr Prayer? Knowing that he goes to sleep early, however he does not awake till after the sun has risen? #ANSWER: It is obligatory upon every Muslim that they fear Allaah, and that he pray the five (daily) prayers in their (prescribed) times, in the masjid with the congregations of the Muslims. And that he strives with all the means that aid him towards that, and from the means that will aid him in establishing the Fajr prayer in congregation are: That he sleeps early (in the night), and that he sets the clock for a pertinent time, until he is establishing it in its (correct) time, and he is attending the Prayer with the congregation, and that he strives in asking Allaah for success and protection. And that he establishes the daily legislated supplications when he is about to sleep, and with this Allaah will grant him success, if Allaah wills, in establishing the prayer in its (correct) time and performing it with the congregation. ¤ Shaykh Bin Baz
