‘BIG LOCAL’ Lottery Funds Update John Ord is managing the BIG LOCAL project in Whitley. John has sent us this update on projects and activities that will be delivered in the local area using lottery funding. All activities are proposed and delivered by people from the local community. An initial £20,000 of funding is available and will be put towards projects including: • Community radio • Community newspaper • “Living Museum” for Whitley (hosted by schools and library) • Some pupils (organised by WEC) will choose art work to display on No. 5 bus • £2000 available for community to organise trips and excursions • Volunteer training programme • Community Transport Scheme • Whitley based “community council” • Small loans scheme offered by Affinity Housing in partnership with Berkshire Credit Union A further £1,000,000 of funding will be made available for further projects and John is keen to hear from local people with their ideas and feed back. At the moment people from the Hexham area have had a lot of input and John would like more people from the wider South Reading area to get involved and give their comments and thoughts on activities.
