BIG MAN SYNDROME Only the powerful can make things done in Kenya. Creating a culture of efficiency and responsibility is a must for any entity to progress. Sadly though, in Kenya, only the powerful can get things done. The rise of Kenyan big man has been the catalyst of culture of inefficiency. Think of it, if the system was efficient, we would not need the big man to make a call on our behalf. The powerlessness of the ones who are led is an advantage to the leaders because the more powerless the led, the more powerful the leaders appear to be. Insecure leadership thrives on this. Secure leadership must put empowerment of the led as a priority. To empower means to give power to. This is not about giving titles. It is about giving people power to act. Empower the personnel to articulate the problems and speak up about them, empower to proffer solutions. Everybodys opinion should count. This gives personnel a sense of ownership and responsibility.
