BIGGEST GAMES IN THE WORLD BY THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS One of my - TopicsExpress

BIGGEST GAMES IN THE WORLD BY THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS One of my fine Facebook friends brought up a good point: thus far I have compared games to each other based on revenue, rather than how many people play them. Revenue is useful to me, as it allows me to compare free games to premium games more evenly, but the point brought up was a fair one, so I did my best to pull together the numbers of the most popular games in the world right now, using the most up-to-date numbers I could find. It is hard to find numbers that compare exactly to each other (Premium games care about copies sold while free games care about active users), but I ranked them the best I am able, and listed the most poplar game from each platform/game type. Again, it is worth remembering that some of these games are free, some are paid, and some are based on subscription, so barrier to entry for each of these games is different. Having said that, this is what the world is playing in 2014: World of Warcraft (most popular MMO) 7.8 million subscribers DOTA 2: 645 000 concurrent users (Most popular game on Steam), 6,5 million active monthly players. Call of Duty: Peak Concurrent 2.6 million (almost certainly the most popular console game along with GTA -approx. 20 million copies sold, GTA 32 million copies sold) Mario Kart Wii: 34.25 million copies sold (most popular AAA-price game) Minecraft: 42 million copies sold across multiple platforms. By far the best-selling premium game in the world for last 10 years. Crossfire: peak concurrent users: 4 million (no other data available, but this number suggests the game should have at least 30 million active users -most popular game in Asia) League of Legends: 32,5 million daily players, 70 million registered users, 7,5 million concurrent users. Most popular hardcore game in the world by the number of users. Club Penguin (most popular game aimed at Children): over 200 million registered users (almost triple of League of Legends) Candy Crush Saga: 93 million daily players, 408 million monthly active users. No other game comes even close to this. Without a doubt, there are many games that should be on the list, but I simply cannot gain access to all the numbers -privately-run games do not publish their numbers for most part, and I have limited knowledge of the most popular games in Asia. However, I am quite confident that right now Candy Crush is by and far the most poplar game in the world by a huge margin. img03.bgstatic-com.de/images/documents/documents/1662/modulecontent/612x0/lol_info1.jpg
