BJP alliance in TN is opportunistic: Stalin The National Democratic Alliance headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu is an opportunistic alliance, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M.K. Stalin said here during an election campaign on Wednesday. To prove his point, Mr. Stalin said that though the BJP did not do much for the Sri Lanka Tamils, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhgam leader Vaiko, who claimed to have taken up their cause always, had become its ally. It was the DMK government gave reservation for Vanniyars, Muslims, Arunthathiyars, hence, people should not vote for communal and casteist parties, he said. Campaigning from his van at various places in the district, Mr. Stalin said the DMK-led alliance in the State was for protecting the SCs, STs and minorities. Various development works undertaken by the previous DMK regime were either stopped or delayed by the AIADMK government. It was the DMK government that provided more revolving funds along with subsidy to women self-help groups, but it was reduced in the present regime. The Manimekalai award introduced for the best women SHGs by the DMK government was also withdrawn, Mr. Stalin said. Later, addressing a public meeting in support of DMKs Lok Sabha candidate for Dharmapuri R Thamaraiselvan, at Harur, Mr. Stalin accused the AIADMK government of dumping the Rs. 1928.80-crore Hogenakkal Drinking Water and Fluorosis Mitigation Scheme in favour of the bottled drinking water that was being sold under the Amma brand. He also accused Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for having supported the kar sevaks in the Babri Masjid demolition and alleged that she had made this announcement at the Chief Ministers’ conference convened by the then Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao. Mr. Stalin accused Vaiko of supporting the party which had opposed the Sethu Canal project
