BLESS THIS STUDENT. LEWIS Southfield, Mich. (WXYZ) - On April 6, Northwestern High School Senior Balaal Hollings went to a party. When a fight broke out, the honor student, football star, student council and senior class president tried to break it up. Then, there was gunfire. A bullet hit Balaal in the head. Balaal didn’t make it back to the school to finish his senior year. UPDATE | Tigers say Balaal Hollings to throw out first pitch On Tuesday, nearly 2 months after the shooting, Balaal’s class gathered at the Millenium Centre in Southfield for the last time as a class for their graduating ceremony. Meantime, Balaal was making plans. “They don’t know I’m coming,” said Balaal as he got out of a car outside the Millenium Centre. “They think I’m dilapidated.” Balaal had enough credits to graduate and came to the ceremony. When he walked on stage in front of his class, there were screams, cries, tears, and lots of applause. “I just want to thank God! It is great to be alive,” said Balaal.
