BODHGAYA – THE SEAT OF PEACE INTO PIECES?” -HRDI STRONGLY CONDEMNS THIS NEW IDEOLOGY OF HATRED AND INTOLERANCE… Bodh Gaya, a religious site and place of pilgrimage associated with the Mahabodhi Temple Complex in Gaya district in the Indian state of Bihar, the place where Gautama Buddha is said to have obtained Enlightenment . For Buddhists, Bodh Gaya is the most important of the four main pilgrimage sites related to the life of Gautama Buddha, and a seat for enlightenment and peace. The early morning bomb blast in series in the world famous Mahabodhi Temple, Bodh Gaya on 7th July, 2013, is an act of barbarism. The Human Rights Defence International (HRDI) denounces the bombing which is the gross violation and attack on the faith and rights of Buddhists. In the recent past, we at HRDI has been highlighting the imminent danger on Buddhists, their right and religious freedom. The brutal attacks on the peace loving Buddhist communities in Bangladesh and our strong protest rally in front of Bangladesh High Commission and a serious discussion on this issue last year has been our deepest concern. Such invasion on the practice of their religion is not going to shake the embedded right of religion of any humanity. Such attack is a ploy to destroy Buddhism. HRDI is not going to leave any stone unturned for safeguarding the interests and rights of our Buddhist fraternity. In this hour of great concern in which two overseas Buddhist monks (Myanmar and Tibet) are seriously injured, HRDI stands behind the Buddhist community in the world and remains committed to safeguard their rights and practice.
