BPD Photo of the Day: Police Commissioner Evans Receives Honorary Degree The BPD Photo of the Day comes courtesy of Patrick Collins, the New England Law School Boston Director of Communications and Marketing, who graciously sent along images of Boston Police Commissioner William Evans receiving an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree at the law school’s 103rd Commencement on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Citi Performing Arts Center, Wang Theatre. In his introduction of Commissioner Evans, the chairman of N.E. Law Boston Board of Trustees Martin C. Foster (seen above presenting the degree) gave numerous reasons for the commissioner’s selection as an honorary degree recipient. Mr. Foster cited among other accomplishments, “Leading with characteristic strength and compassion, [Commissioner Evans] has been lauded, in particular, for his actions during two extraordinary events: the peaceful decampment of a 70-day occupation of Dewey Square by Occupy Boston protestors in 2011 and his efforts to calm and direct officers immediately following the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, having just minutes before completed the marathon course himself as a runner.” Also receiving honorary Doctor of Humanities degrees during the law school’s ceremony were president and executive director of the Pine Street Inn Lyndia Downie and Mayor Martin J. Walsh.
