BREAD of LIFE: I have taken time to study the book of Philippians - TopicsExpress

BREAD of LIFE: I have taken time to study the book of Philippians chapter four and was impressed by Pauls diverse submissions. It is rich in content and filled with powerful, highly inspiring, motivational and encouraging words of wisdom. Verses 4,13 and 19 are notable places where the need to be happy despite any ugly situation, ability to borrow strength from God to do all things and the assurances that God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory are clearly enumerated! This goodwill wishes and blessings are directed to the Philippians whom Paul said had discovered the art of giving early enough more than any other church of that era. However in my message today, I will be concentrating on the contents in verses 6,7 & 8 and try as much as possible to explain their meanings! Verse 6: Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known unto God ! Here Paul throws a panacea to discourage us from worry. You know, we worry so much, whenever we think the situation around us is not favourable to us. But this is not right. Our maker has already taken care of our frailties even before we were born. Matthew 6:25-26; Therefore I say unto you Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat and the body than raiment. Behold the fowls of the earth for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather in barns, yet your heavenly father feedeth them; Are ye not much better than them? Brethren! After we have put worry aside, we are expected to now approach God with our prayers in three ways: 1. To pray prayer of recognition of God as our Alpha and Omega. 2. To make a solemn request of our God by what Paul called supplication. 3. And finally by giving God thanks. We should learn to develop a heart of appreciation. God values our thanksgiving more than anything else, we can offer. Verse 7 talks about peace! The peace of God which passeth all understanding! Peace is not only absence of troubles and wars! This kind Jesus does not recognise. But peace of God is the type that anchors you permanently to God. Jesus said My peace I give unto you not as the world giveth This only implies that the worlds peace is not genuine. Now verse 8. Finally my brethren, whatsoever things are true; whatsoever things are honest; whatsoever things are just; whatsoever things are pure; whatsoever things are lovely; whatsoever things are of good report; If there be any virtue and if there be any praise; think on these things! These are lifes guiding principles enumerated here. And there is the need for us to examine our lives every day and every hour! Its only by so doing that we can come in conformity with Gods approved standard, as a way of life. Anything short of that will derail our faith. To live positively in a negative world can only be guaranteed if we continuously look up to Jesus. Heb. 12:2 ! Child of God do as you are spiritually instructed. For by so doing shall you surely conquer! Note that solution to every difficult problem lies inside it. God bless you!
