BREAKING NEWS: AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The states Republican leadership has announced it has authorized the Texas Department of Public Safety to spend about $1.3 million per week to fund what is called law enforcement surge operations to fight a surge of illegal immigration along the Texas-Mexico border. In a joint statement Wednesday evening, Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and House Speaker Joe Straus said the spending comes in what they call the absence of adequate resources to secure the border. The surge would continue until years end.
