BREAKING NEWS! Over the last few months, much has been happening toward the development of our proposed Tamaracouta Environmental Sciences Centre (TESC)....a project of Scouts Canada (Quebec Council). *A preliminary updated environmental assessment of the1,000-acre, century-old Tamaracouta property has been conducted, the initial results being that it is considered of high ecological value in Quebec. *The University of Sherbrooke Environmental Sciences Faculty (Masters Program) is about to complete a study of TESC environmental education and outreach potential. *We have the unanimous support of the MRC Argenteuil and all other nine area municipalities, including the City of Lachute. * Marc Garneau, (MP, former Director, Canadian Space Agency, and Canadas first astronaut) has committed his team to TESCs development. *Discussions are currently underway with the McGill Sciences Faculty and other educational institutions at various levels to discuss environmental and other educational programs and research facilities with TESC. *TESC has the endorsement of several key environmental organizations in the Laurentian and other regions, and we will be working on further collaboration initiatives with them on an ongoing basis. *As TESCs current chief representative, I have been invited by the Mayor of the Municipality of Mille-Isles (where TESC is located) to be a member and advisor to their new environmental council...the first municipal one in the Laurentians. Bravo to Mille-Isles! *We have a preliminary sketch of our new proposed environmental sciences centre, but we are seeking consultation of the design specifics of both the building and surrounding property, as well as budget and funding considerations. *Finally, TESC will be collaborating with the David Suzuki Foundation for their province-wide Nature Days event on May 17-19. This event will be free of charge at Tamaracouta, and will include animated tours of our current Ecology Centre, short environmental education hikes, and longer ones to our beautiful waterfalls. Le Nichoir, Canadas largest wild bird rehabilitation sanctuary, will also be joining us for their great avian science program. Further details will be provided at the end of April. Thought all you great supporters of TESC deserved an update. We werent holding back on you...we just want to make sure that we are not making premature announcements. Thank you so much, everyone! More great news may be just on the horizon, but we cant disclose it just yet. Stay tuned!
