BREAKING NEWS: Republican John Boehner re-elected Speaker of the House. In a historic dissension, 28 Republicans cast defection votes against Mr. Boehner, representing the greatest political divide in American Government history. It has always been pretty much a fait accompli that Boehner would be elected speaker. The simple fact is that what happened today in the Speaker election is unprecedented in American politics. Speakers of the House who gain seats do not face defections on this order, or anything even remotely like it. The fact that Boehner had 28 defections despite the absence of a credible challenger speaks volumes about the fact that the culture in the GOP Caucus is changing
