The danger of a single story by Chimamanda Adichie In this - TopicsExpress

The danger of a single story by Chimamanda Adichie In this talk, Chimamanda speaks about how knowing only single story about another person or country might lead to critical misunderstandings. She gives many different examples from her experiences than make us realise the importance of knowing different things about a person or a place. In the discussions that we had after screening the video, many of us shared our own experiences about the dangers of a single story. When an Indian girl went to study in London, everyone in her class felt that she would not be able to do well in English. They felt that Indians did not know the language well enough. But, the girl managed to top her class in English. The other students had probably not heard the diverse stories of people in India or about the various English scholars from India. This talk helps us understand that when we hear something about a place or a person, we should not conclude that it is the only truth about that place or person. We should ourselves try and find out other stories so that there are no critical misunderstandings. https://youtube/watch?v=D9Ihs241zeg
