BREAKUP! Leo Messi & Luis Enrique’s relationship has broken down at Barcelona according to Sport report For the second day running, the Spanish press is dominated by rumours of in-fighting and a distinct lack of harmony at FC Barcelona. The latest twist in the tale, as provided by Sport, is that Lionel Messi and manager Luis Enrique have seen their relationship completely break down this week. Enrique, who has courted claims that he doesn’t know what he’s doing having fielded 17 different starting XIs in 17 La Liga games, is said to have turned on Messi when the Argentine failed to turn up for training. The front page of Sport reports a “Broken relationship” between the pair, in which there have been insults and threats between Messi and Enrique in the last few weeks. “Punishment”. Specifically, Enrique considered starting proceedings against Messi after his training session absence, while Messi has reportedly trained alone at Barcelona since he has recovered from a stomach bug. Sport also claim that there is a key meeting planned at the Camp Nou to resolve the outstanding problems, in which senior players in the dressing room will try to build bridges between Luis Enrique and Messi as mediators. As reported in the paper: Enrique was not convinced that the “gastroenteritis” Messi said he had was real and his anger was monumental. So much so that he took a firm decision – to punish Leo formally. In the end, there was no punishment. The reason for that is because the captains, Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets, convinced the coach that punishing Messi would not help and make the environment around the club untenable. On Wednesday morning those three club captains will speak with Messi and try to calm the storm that surrounds Barcelona.
