BU JOURNALISM STUDENTS COMMEMORATE 5TH MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE LEGAZPI CITY, ALBAY -- Remember 11.23 was a forum spearheaded by Bicol Organization of Neo-Journalists (BONJour) held at the BUCAL Amphitheater in honor of the 58 innocent people, including 32 journalists, who unexpectedly met their cruel deaths last November 23, 2009. The two-part assembly aimed to remind the mass media students that the tragic feat that occurred in Ampatuan, Maguindanao is not yet on the finish line. The justice that ought to be given to the victims is still beyond its reach. The justice system in the Philippines is poor, Karapatang Bicol representative Paul Vincent Casilihan said. He served as one of the resources speaker in the event. The Maguindanao Massacre Commemoration began through a shared sense of empathy and responsibility led by the official organization of journalists in the College of Arts and Letters in Bicol University. Angelo Reyes from kabataan Partylist expressed his unity statement, Mas maganda kung makalahok dito (pagtitipon) sa Bicol University ang ibang eskwelahan para mapansin tayo ng pamahalaan. Reynard Magtoto, College Editor Guild of the Philippines representative and Joshua Caleb Pacleta, managing editor of the Bicol Universitarian, the official student publication of Bicol University shared also their unity statement. Both of them plead for the justice of the extrajudicial killings. The forum was ended by a prayer and candle-lighting procedures outlining the words to the events theme. (Jessica B. Bechayda)
