BUILDING FOR THE HARVEST DAILY DEVOTION God’s Promise of Diversity Throughout the Bible God deals with people as ‘nations’. First mentioned in Genesis 10, ‘nations’ are people groups with common destiny, demographics, geography, language or ethnicity. Today we most often think of ‘nations’ as defined by geography, but when, for example, language is shared in common, the people who speak that one language can be grouped as a nation. Spanish speakers are drawn to Spanish speakers, those who speak German would gravitate towards others who speak German – there is a common element that draws a people together, even beyond geographic boundaries. God created all things to exhibit His glory; He created all things to manifest and reveal Him, growing in glory increasingly. Within nations He planted gifts and resources, strengths and calling. Think of different cultures and nations – some have strengths and gifting in music, others gifting in dance, some ethnic groups tend to be managers, organizers, some work in other ways. One of the promises that God has given Focal Point Church is that we will have diversity, and diversity is a gift of God. Any church that is just of one ethnicity has strengths but it also has very obvious weaknesses, no matter what the ethnicity. The Lord is building diversity of ethnicity in our church Body, and with that comes a greater sense of health. When you are worshipping, studying and sharing life with people of other nations or ethnicities, the strengths that God has put in each nation or ethnic group becomes a part of your culture, your life and your growth. And our strengths become a part of their culture. An atmosphere is being created that doesn’t come when there is just one ethnic group. Diversity also gives us a platform to other ethnicities. There is a greater reach to more people as we are connected to people groups we wouldn’t otherwise be connected to if we were just of one ethnicity. This helps us to fulfill destiny. The strengths of one people group complementing the strengths of another, ushering one another deeper and higher into the things of God. • Praise God for the gift of diversity He is giving to Focal Point Church • Pray for those God will bring into our church from different nations, that we will be ready to receive them and the gifting they bring as a people • Pray for those of each nation and ethnicity to take on the mission of discipling those within their reach
