Baboo was founded by Julian Cook in August 2003 following SWISS’ decision to abandon the Geneva-Lugano route. The first flight to Lugano took place on November 3, 2003 with a Cirrus Airlines aircraft. In May 2004 the airline obtained its Air Operators Certificate licence from the Federal Office for Civil Aviation of Switzerland(FOCA), allowing it to operate with its own aircraft - a 50-seat Dash 8-Q300 leased from the manufacturer, Bombardier Aerospace. Baboo was then able to acquire its own aircraft, two Dash 8-Q400 turboprops that formed the airlines fleet for the next 5 years. In 2007, Baboo was running out of capital and sold to Lebanese Investment Group M1, among the major developments, an equity increase amounting to 9.2 million Euros, which was subscribed in 2007, enabled the management to devise a sound growth strategy and to give the company a new dimension and corporate image. Julian Cook was then ousted from the company. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baboo_(airline) Darwin Airline was established on 12 August 2003 and operations started on 28 July 2004. By October 2013 it had grown to include 220 employees.[2] On 25 November 2010, Darwin Airline announced its plans to take over some operating assets of Baboo by early 2011. Under the plan, some parts of the combined airline would continue to be marketed under the Baboo name, while Darwin would be able to substantially expand their operations.[3] On 2 September 2013, Darwin Airline opened a base at Cambridge with flights to Amsterdam, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Milan Malpensa and its Geneva base using Saab 2000 aircraft.[4] On 17 November 2013, Etihad Airways announced that it had bought a one-third stake in Darwin Airline. Following completion of the deal, Darwin will use the new brand name Etihad Regional but Darwin will continue to operate as normal and will operate flights for Etihad Regional and the new brand will have the subtitle operated by Darwin Airline.[5] The first Darwin aircraft featuring the Etihad Regional livery began operating between Lugano and Geneva on 17 January 2014; the airline announced that all ten of the Saab 2000 aircraft would be repainted in Etihad livery by the end of June 2014.[6] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_Airline Etihad Equity Alliance[edit] One of the pillars of Etihads operation is its equity alliance, which is composed of: • Air Serbia (49%) • Air Seychelles (40%) • Air Berlin (29.21%) • Jet Airways (24%) • Virgin Australia (19.9%) • Aer Lingus (2.987%) • Darwin Airline (33.3%) [21]
