Babs update: As many of you know, Babs had a meet & greet in - TopicsExpress

Babs update: As many of you know, Babs had a meet & greet in Virginia this week. We were very excited to meet the family, which included a wonderful older pit. Babs absolutely loved the road trip! We had a nice long walk before the meet, and another to introduce the dogs before moving to the backyard. Our girl was a bit nervous, which is out of character for her, but not unusual after a 7 hour drive. Moving into the house, the resident dog couldnt be sweeter and more loving. We were hopeful that Babs would relax and maybe take a rest on her brand new bed, but she was itching to go out again so we took both dogs for another walk around the neighborhood. Back inside, she remained anxious and very barky (which is unusual for her). It was becoming more clear that she was not ready for a sleepover and the adoption was not meant to be. As wonderful as the potential adopter and his dog were, Babs was not able to relax and be her normal, happy-go-lucky self. As always, it is ultimately up to the dogs. They are very intuitive and will always let you know how they are feeling. We truly believe that a few more visits could have made the difference, and normally we do a slow intro over several days if necessary. But because we were lucky to find a loving and experienced pit owner, we decided to go out of our area and take a chance. We will do anything for our rescue dogs and cats, even if it means a 7 hour drive. So, while it was heartbreaking that Babs didnt find her forever home, we made the best of it. She loved the road, her first stay at a hotel, and a couple of great hikes with her rescue mamas. But we are now in a time crunch, as her temporary foster has work commitments out of town which will not allow her to keep Babs past 12/15. It is time to FIND a Loving Forever Home for Babs... at this point she has been with us for one year! During that time she has bounced between two foster homes and two boarding situations - all after surviving a kill shelter. Sadly this is all too common for pit bulls regardless of how sweet and gentle they are. Her next step must be forever, not another foster or boarding. But time is not on our side, so we are appealing to our community for help. Please share this post, as well as Babs daily updates on our page. This is absolutely the next best thing to adopting. We will consider any applicant within 3 hours of Long Island, so that multiple meets can be arranged. Her perfect adopter is active and looking for an outdoor companion on walks and hikes. (Our Babs even followed a doggy friend into a lake last week, despite 30 degree temps!). They will be committed to working with her so that she can continue to succeed in her training. She has been working very hard with her current foster and does very well with routine and boundaries. While she still pulls on the leash and jumps to give kisses (typical pit mix), she has been making steady progress in those areas because she is smart and eager to please. In return, her adopter will have a loving and loyal friend, more kisses than any human could ever ask for and endless entertainment from the worlds sweetest goofball. Please consider opening your home and heart to Babs. Words cannot possibly describe what a beautiful soul she is. Just meet her once and youll see what we mean. And share, share, share! Lets get our girl home. Please email all inquiries to Road to Home Rescue Support at inforoadtohome@gmail. * Temporary foster ending soon!
