Back in the day before the GOP was taken over by Tea Party haters, - TopicsExpress

Back in the day before the GOP was taken over by Tea Party haters, lawmakers were on occasion bipartisan for the greater good of the people. Entitlement programs have always been a huge drag on our economy as is military spending. Both parties agreed that those budget busters needed to be dealt with in a meaningful way. They were addressing defense spending. Closing bases at home and around the world. Canceling some large unnecessary defense programs. Then 911 happened under a Republican administration. Their response was to invade Iraq under a false pretense of WMD at the cost of trillions of dollars. Which were lavishly bestrode onto contacted private armies like Halliburton. A company with a lobbyist in the White House in the person of Vice President Dick Cheney and a generous contributor to conservative campaigns. Whats the use of getting into a needless conflict if we all cant make a little money? So much for trimming defense spending. Now lets turn our attention to the other eight hundred pound gorilla in the room. Social Security and Medicare. Everyone can agree that with the aging population of baby boomers leaving the workforce and becoming eligible for Social Security and Medicare / Medicaid has made the funding of the program unsustainable by worker contributions. There is just too much going out and not enough coming in. Which was not helped by a decade of high unemployment and slow or no growth of the economy. Not to mention the congress borrowing vast sums from the retirement program without ever paying the money back. Thank you very much. Dealing with this problem was always kicked down the road by lawmakers, not because they couldnt come up with a solution but because it was political death to vote to cut Social Security. Old people vote and in large numbers. Now we find ourselves in the 2000s and the political landscape has change. The Republican Party finds itself in control of the House of Representatives and staged to take control of the Senate this year. They also enjoy a political base that seems to not have a problem with supporting conservative politicians wiling to sell them out in exchange for smaller government and higher profits for the richest 1% of the public. Now we can really cut into entitlement programs and still keep our sweet jobs and make our big business handlers lots of money so when we leave public service we can go to work for them and make lot a of money. Im detecting a them here, lots of money. So how do we deal with entitlements in the style of a good physical conservative? Lets tackle the easy stuff first. NO to veterans benefits. Lets all give our veterans a big round of applause before they drop dead waiting to see a doctor. NO to unemployment benefits to the millions thrown out of work when we tanked the economy. NO to a minimum wage so people can make enough to scrape out a living. It makes more sense to pay people less and allow the government to supplement their income. Hell more free money for people like the Waltons, the richest family in America. NO to SNAP, the life line for the working poor. Or as I like to call them, Walmart employees. NO to the ACA and the expansion of Medicare to include millions of uninsured, underinsured, and the just uninsurable under the old system. Gee, I feel better already. Now what to do about all these aging baby boomers that we guaranteed a social safety net so they can live out their golden years without the fear of not knowing where there next meal is coming from. After all they paid into the system all their working lives. Oh I think we might have just stumbled on a solution. Lets have those old folks with no health insurance work longer. If we get lucky maybe they will just drop dead before they collect a nickel. Dont you just love it when your problems just, die. So what shall we do about all those desperate children fleeing for their lives in a Normandy style invasion of our southern border. I know, lets send them back into the arms of the people who would rape, torture and kill them. Well I have to go to a prayer meeting now. Good luck America, your all in my prayers just not in my budget.
