Back-to-school season has had me going through my Little House travel pics looking for schoolhouse pictures. When you go to the homesites you wind up visiting a LOT of one-room schoolhouses (I think in De Smet there are five that are used in various ways). I think one of my favorites is in Kansas, the Little House on the Prairie Museum schoolhouse (which was moved to the site from its original location). It was built in the 19th century but used until 1948, and the thing I love about it is how there are traces of its final years in service all throughout, from the linoleum to the old geography poster in the cloakroom...
