Bangkok Assignment: Report on the Reporters Will Fireatte commented: Saw some video on the local (Bangkok) news - doesnt look like more than ten or twelve people directly involved in this little drama... when the cameras pull back, you see a lot of photographers. The pictures are cropped for dramatic effect, but it didnt really look like much was really going on. Truth! I have witnessed many times what Will Fireatte describes. Be cautious of cropped-in photos that do not have a least one wide-view. I have written about this numerous times over the years. Some journalists use smoke and mirrors to make photos tell lies. When the event is BIG, they will publish photos showing the great crowd. If the event is tiny, they will show a tiny handful of people burning a flag or stepping on a photo or whatever. ASSIGNMENT -- if you chose to accept: Make high quality closeup photos of the journalists who are doing this, and make photos of the events both zoomed in and wide angle, and add any journalists who use this sleight of hand to the Wall of Shame. If I were in Thailand now, I would likely focus more on the journalists than the bullets, trying to sort out who is honest and who to ignore. The hardest part is figuring out who the few journalists are who are doing a great job. They surely are there, but who are they?
