Bank customers worried over continuous cyber crimes Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 18: Fraudulent telemarketers have found yet another way to steal your money. Like other parts of country, consumers across the J&K are also complaining about unauthorized debits (withdrawals) from their checking accounts. A consumer like Joginder Lal of Jammu too have become victim of this big nexus as Fraudulent telemarketers have managed to debit Rs 55 thousand from his saving account after getting information about his account . Not only he, but dozens of consumers of PNB, SBI, J&K Bank and other banks have become victim and lost hefty amount of money due to this growing trend. The Bank officials say that they are repeatedly cautioning that if a caller asks for your checking account number or other information printed on your check, you should follow the same warning that applies to your credit card number that is not give out checking account information over the phone unless you are familiar with the company and agree to pay for something. Further they added that if you give your checking account number over the phone to a stranger for verification or computer purposes, that person could use it to improperly take money from your checking account. Recently one senior citizen in Barnai area near here was duped of Rs 92,000 from his two ATMs in PNB and SBI while early this morning a young house wife in the same area also received a anonymous phone call asking her to reveal her pin and account number. However lady acted promptly and did not reveal her number. She also took up the issue with concerned bank manager. In view of growing frauds and cheating the people have made an appeal to Government to act against such fraudsters involved in cyber crimes so that no one is duped off his hard earned money again. They demanded that bank should also adopt a fool proof mechanism to deal with such crimes.
