Bank of Kigali (the “Bank”), the largest bank in Rwanda by total assets held a grand inauguration ceremony to officially open the BK Centre Muhanga located in the central town of Muhanga District, Southern Province. The BK Centre has five floors and is an ultra-modern building that has become the landmark within Muhanga. The building is home to the Bank’s spacious BK Muhanga branch and as well as a State of the Art Disaster Recovery Site that ensures business continuity for the Bank. The building has been constructed with exemplary features including the use of natural sunlight during daytime which, besides saving energy, is environmentally friendly. In addition, adequate and secure undergrounding parking is available for customers and visitors. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Governor of the Southern Province, who was also the Chief Guest at the event expressed his gratitude to the Management of the Bank for their commitment in. He noted that it is a great boost to the infrastructure of the Province. The construction of BK Centre Muhanga is in line with Bank’s expansion strategy that is underpinned by an ubiquitous branch network that has seen branch footprint grow from 18 to 70 over the past five years with 45 of these being in rural areas. In addition to expansion of branches, the Bank has accelerated the development of its banking infrastructure through the establishment of agency banking as well as mobile branches that are both innovative and inclusive alternative delivery channels. The CEO of Bank of Kigali, Dr. James Gatera noted that Muhanga branch will be a one-stop shop for the banking needs of residents and businesses across the District. “Bank of Kigali is fully aware of, and understands the critical role that we must play in promoting financial inclusion and subsequently social economic development across the Rwanda. The Bank’s ATM and POS infrastructure now stands at 70 and over 600 respectively. The Bank currently has over 750 active agents and nine mobile vans that provide financial services to residents in remote areas of the country where the Bank has no branch presence”. The Bank is also developing an interoperable mobile banking platform that will connect customers’ core banking accounts to their mobile money wallets allowing them to make transfers to and from either of these accounts.
