Barcelonastar Lionel Messi says that he is pleased that Cristiano Ronaldo will be at the World Cup with Portugal next year. Portugal were in danger of missing out on the competition in Brazil, until superstar CR7’s master class of attacking football saw them through their playoff against Sweden. Messi and Ronaldo are thought to have a strained relationship, but La Pulga Atomica insists that he was happy for the Real Madrid scoring machine, and football in general, when Portugal booked their place in Brazil. “I was very happy for him when he scored those goals,” Messi said of hat-trick hero Ronaldo as he picked up his 2013 Golden Boot prize on Wednesday. “It’s just great when the best teams compete in Brazil, and Cristiano has had a great scoring rate for many years now. He plays at an outstanding level. “I don’t know if this is Cristiano’s best moment, but he is always there, scoring goals in all the games and playing his part for his club and his country. He has been like that for many years. Whether he is at his best, or a bit below that, there is almost no difference.” Messi says that at this stage of his career, he is not especially interested in individual awards, or contests with any particular opponent. Instead, he says he has his eye on winning the World Cup with Argentina. “Certainly, to win the World Cup is a dream for me, my teammates and all of Argentina,” he said. “We are doing well -- we need to improve a couple of things, but there are still seven months until the tournament starts. Hopefully we can win there, but a lot of nations can do it.”
